Summer

She sits elegantly on the concrete staircase, in a ruffled dress and summer hat. The trees and grass move gently in the breeze. She hears birds chirping and watches them flutter around the bird feeder, sees a fluffy-tailed squirrel dash across the lawn. The sounds of summer surround her, and she leans backwards to let the warm rays of sunshine caress her pale face. She falls backwards and realizes hazily that she's still in bed.

You don't know

You don't know
that the first time
I saw you
I felt a strange
connection.

We didn't meet
officially
for years after,
but you've always
been special to me.

You don't know
that when I look at you
I imagine forever;
that being happy comes
so easily with you.

Your arms wrapped
around my shoulders
is like coming home.
A serene calm relaxation
that is you and me.

You don't know
how surreal this
is to me
you're not just mine
you're also me.
